90% of the time, car manufacturers just can't seem to make halfway decent looking stock wheels. Take for example the Supra's, which looked like Patrick Star after Thanksgiving. What's the best example of this?
Not to pick on Toyota, but I'll start by volunteering !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! as an example, with wheels that aren't much better than the Supra's.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
EDIT: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! had the excellent suggestion of adding the requirement that they must be actual wheels, NOT hubcaps or wheel covers.

First off, let's eliminate everything that has a plastic wheel cover. They don't count. Only proper rims that you can't just put a new cover on.
My nomination:
Ford Probe GT.

There are just so many choices. I'd like to thank the Mercedes B-Class and the Ferrari California for putting up a good fight. But I've got to hand it to Mercedes-Benz's younger, smaller off spring - Smart ForTwo, you're the winner of tonight's Ugly Betty contest!

The Miata daisies. They make an otherwise awesome car look extremely stupid. Case in point:
And without the stupid daisies:
A world of difference.

To Toyota's credit, they did get better wheels later on
I think these were on the 97+ SW20R's. Their only disservice is that they're a 16 inch rim, if they were 17x7 and 17x8's they'd be pretty much perfect.
I'm really disappointed in the rim choice for the 86.
I actually prefer the lower-spec rim (shown here in lower spec AUDM GT trim) even if it still shows Toyota's fetish for having the rear wheels sunk into the archway

Viper RT/10 wheels....
Good on Hot Wheels, still not good on something crazy like the Viper.

Not sure if these came as a stock option... but I saw way too many of them out there.

The 8 Series could come with some ugly wheels. Different wheels can make a big difference.

Craigslist must be full of ads saying "FT-86 stock rims, like new, nearly never used, 100$ for 4"

they're actually selling at a premium, the guys I know who have 86's are keeping their original rims for when they sell the car to keep the resale value higher.

Ya know... that could work on one of the late 90's models...

It's done all the time on 2nd gen 2wds. I'm thinking they'd look good on my '95 4x4 ;)

Came here to say you should have posted a yellow one, but I couldn't find a single example of a stand along wheel, sadly.

Rumor has it BMW intentionally made the base wheels butt-ugly to effectively force buyers to pay $4k+ for the optional less ugly rims.

I don't know what they were thinking, but at the same time I know 20 years down the road a red viper with yellow wheels will be the one to have.

I dunno... I think Yellow + Red will be an everlasting awful color combination. It clashes so hard...
